FAQ

Questions and answers

Is Spelastream free?

Yes. It is free to download and use.

Does it work outside my home?

No. Spelastream is for your household. Your phone, tablet, laptop or TV must be on the same network as the gaming PC. This is also why it is safe: the secure address only works inside your home.

Which games can I play?

Games that are installed on your PC through Steam, GOG or Epic. Spelastream finds them for you.

Which graphics cards work?

Spelastream uses hardware video encoding: NVENC on NVIDIA, AMF on AMD and QSV on Intel graphics. You need a Windows 10 or 11 64-bit PC.

Which devices can I play on?

Phones, tablets, laptops and TVs with a modern browser. Controllers, keyboard and mouse, and touch controls are supported.

Why does Windows show a warning when I run the installer?

Windows shows a blue screen for programs it has not seen often. Big companies pay for a code-signing certificate that avoids it. Spelastream is a small free app and does not have one. Click More info, then Run anyway. Updates are checked against a digital signature, and the download page shows a SHA-256 you can compare. More on the download page.

What does the address service store?

Only a name that points to your PC's private network address, such as abc123.spelastream.com. This lets your devices open Spelastream with a real HTTPS certificate. Nothing else is stored.

How private is it?

Your games, your library and your video stay in your home. The only thing the app sends out is the name lookup described above. This website counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, and you can opt out. Read the privacy page.

How do I uninstall it?

Open Windows settings, go to installed apps, find Spelastream and choose Uninstall. It removes cleanly like any other app.

Can my PC sleep?

Yes. Spelastream supports sleep and wake, and includes a guide for setting up your router so your devices can wake the PC.
